She is one of only a few survivors from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. In 'I Have Lived a Thousand Years: Growing Up in the Holocaust,' Livia Bitton-Jackson tells of her life during the Second World War. Her story ended with her surviving the war and finding a loving family that took care of her after she got out of prison. Eventually, she was caught and sent to Auschwitz. She talked about being hungry, cold and scared while trying to evade detection while hiding from the Nazis in an attic. Livia's family was taken by Nazis and she was left alone to fend for herself.
